Dink: Auctions are the only true value of any commodity. A classified add is clearly one man's opinion until it is sold, then you truly don't know if that price was high enough. Just look at YT photo classifieds, some items disappear after one add. There are several items on YT photo adds that have been coming back monthly or bi monthly for 2 and 3 years. I can think of one tractor that shows up every 3 months and has been doing so for 5 years now. Clearly that one is over priced, either that or he is H@## of an offensive individual. I might add, auction with reserves often don't result in sales. It may look like it, but truly not the case. Then you have auctions with with groups or individuals running prices, it could well be a group of individuals willing to spend enough money in commissions to establish price. They win some and they loose some.
