First thing would be to take the radiator off so you can see if the fins are plugged and do a good inspection of the core. Your problem probably is not in the radiator. When you have the rad off take off the lower housing going to the block. By using compressed air and water get the junk out of that passage and by looking in that passage you can see nickle sized holes at the base of the sleeves these probably are the culprits as they get plugged. Using a rag to help plugg the bottom hole where you took off the housing put the hose in there to back flush doing that and compressed air you should be able to get the four holes cleaned out. If you want to add a water pump you can just get one for a SC make sure it comes with pulley as you dont have one.The pump bolt on where you took off the lower housing and you need a new fan belt for a SC with water pump. You dont need a thermostat nor a pressure cap on the radiator just use what you have and i will guarantee it will keep your engine cool. When you get the block and radiator clean you could get along without water pump so that adding the pump would be just another choice. I will put pumps if i am building an engine for using heavy on a belley mower. I have one customer who mows around 9a with the six foot model says he should have bought one years ago. glad to help anytime.
