Now don't go and start tryen to adjust the linkage as this is not going to help , first pull the cowel and look for excess play at the shifter then fix what ever it needs there like the littel as i call them the cubcadet tierod ends then move on down and pull the floor plate off and the kick panel and see how much slop you have in the headed pins on the linkage repace them with the factory ones not what you can buy that will fit as you never get the correct location for the cotter pins . then work the shifter and see how much slop you have in the range transmission cover on the shift lever and the reverse shifter piviot if there is a bunch of slop then the cover needs to be rebushed you need to find a good machine shop that can keep the center line of the org. holes and bore them out and make a press fit bushing and while that is off ya want to make sure that the keyway in the rev, shift rod-arm -lever is good and all the rollers and there as sometimes from hard shifting they break in half and you will find them in the hdy. filter area . Now before ya start tearing into the range cove get ahold of me and i will walk you thru this step by step and you will not have any problems.
