It was originally filled with 10w non-detergent. This is still available at farm supply stores.

Personally, this is what I use in my 'C'. If the pump ever leaks (like mine did for a while), it will flow into the engine crank-case. The 10w won't harm your engine. Hydraulic oil could cause excessive engine wear if it gets in there and you run it for a while.
