I agree with Bob on the charging voltage. It should be 13.5 to 14.5 volts with your engine at 1/2 throttle. Check your truck or car's charging voltage at a fast idle or a little higher. This is the normal voltage for a 12 volt system. I had a 1972 Ford LTD with the 429cid engine and the charging voltage was 15.25 volts. Never had any battery problems either. Hal PS: The Ford shop manual had that voltage in it too.
