Thank you all for the information about spark advance. It cleared up a number of points that I"ve never been sure about. I forgot to mention that the distributor unit came off a Super A and that the H has the low compression kerosene head on it. Never gave any thought about the H having higher engine revs than SA when I fitted the distributor to it and the difference in spark timing. What has brought me to raise this subject is the tractor was put on a dynamometer a few weeks ago and only turned out 21 hp on the PTO, whereas about 10 years ago when it had the mag. and before new rings were fitted, it was 26 hp. One more question, is there any way of comparing the PTO hp with the Belt hp originally measured at the Nebraska Tests ? Thanks in advance. Sid.

Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
