i agree with Old and Nat... ya really got to be able to do some basic troubleshooting to keep these 40-50-60 year old gas engines goin. Check spark first.. if spark is bad/none.. run a jumper wire fromthe battery bypassing ignition switch to coil,, then check again.. still none? take a piece of 800 or 1000 finishing sand paper and pull it thru the closed points once on eace side of the contact ( this is not great for the points.. at best you replace them or use a real ignition hone.. but for checking.. this will get you going.. ).. if this helps.. your points are needing replacing. If you do have spark.. look at the carb.. black smoke means rich.. that is either a plugged air intake.. a flooding carb.. or weak spark.. Soundguy
