First off, if you don"t have one already, get a parts manual and a maint. manual. Invaluable information. Also, take plenty of pictures or notes. Helps when putting everything back together any you wind up wondering where that extra thingy went. To remove the axels you will first need to remove the brake drums. Loosen the set screw and slide them off. They have a woodruff key. I personally had a devil of a time getting the drum off of the long axel. Wound up having a round steel plate made with threaded holes and some long threaded rod to make a puller. After much soaking, tighting and tapping on the top of the puller it finally came loose. Once the brake drums are off you should be able to slide the axel out of the housing. If the bearings are tight on the axel just tap them out with a hard rubber mallet. When I rebuilt the transmission I removed the differential cage first. When you remove the bearing retainer for the differential keep all the shims separate and marked for which side they go on. Then remove the top front bearing cover and tap the spline shaft back though. The rear bearing may work out of its seat. Pretty much the same with the countershaft if I remember correctly. Good luck.
