A rebuild?

My A really starts to smoke "black" when it warms up after some lengthy mowing sessions. I was thinking that it most likely needs new rings... However, I have never performed such a rebuild and was wondering what documentation (manual, etc) best describes how to perform this "operation". Ive heard the "video" is not detailed enough. Is Binder books the best bet to go with?? I'm all for getting my hands dirty, but I dont want to perform work thats not going to help the cause? What Im afraid of is when I have it torn apart that I may overlook something thats the real cause of the problem (valves maybe ??). Any thoughts etc. would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks... this is a great site!
