Not sure about the M, but the A, 140, and Cub original boxes are 14 gauge (about 0.080) cold rolled. I made my replacements with 16 gauge (about 0.060) because that was the thickest that I could shear with available equipment. I would suggest the use of nothing thinner. Some of the Cub replacement boxes are very light gauge. Since the box on the Cub is also part of the grounding path for the battery, the heavier gauge is important.
