CNKS is on target. The improvement in oils has been much of the reason engines are lasting as much longer as they are. Cokeing is the formation of carbon/ash deposits on the back side of valves. When an engine has issues with valve stem oil control, and valve cooling issues (valves are cooled by stem to guide conductance, face to seat conductance, and, on the intake, charge cooling of the head of the valve), they coke up. Some 6 cyl IHC engines were notorious for the problem. I believe proper repair (valve guide oil control, with PC style seals)can eliminate most if not all of the problem. JimN
