Gary: Roundup application before alfalfa is number one in my books. Getting rid of grasses that propagate by rhyzomes is a must. I quite often applied N, get it growing well, then hit it with roundup and plow it. If you do this one should plow within 2 days of round up application.

If I had a bad grass problem, I may give another shot of N after plowing and if I get green more roundup. The rewards are great if the crop following is going to be alfalfa.
