I agree with the others... I'd stick the genny back on, polarize it, and go back with a 6v battery and good cables. When i bought my JD-B.. it had a 12v battery in it.. still ahd the 6v gen on it too.. I swapped the battery for a 6v, polarized the system and it was good to go. A 2-brush genny with a regulator won't be a good candidate to charge a higher voltage battery. A 3-brush genny with 3rd brush adjustment, can charge 8v, and will be hit or miss as to weather it could charge 12v really well. Soundguy
