Farmall H 12 volt battery in 6 volt system

I have a 1948 H with Magnetio ingnition. I have been running it with no generator and been just using a 12volt battery to start it. I would like to install the 6 volt gen and hook up the charging system and lights. Can I do this with a 12 volt battery? I have heard that maybe it can be done with just switching some wires around on the gen? Also I heard that farmall H"s are supposed to be positive ground. Would this still be true with the 12 volt battery? Also were can a guy get new water pump packing for the end of the water pump?
