Nat: Pray tell, what would be wrong with a 6 volt alternator. If you don't believe me go to google, type in 6 volt alternator and search. I've had a 6 volt alternator on my Super A for 13 years now. Went into an auto electric shop one day with my generator that had actually caught fire and was black, all the red paint was gone. I said,"I have a new 6 volt battery in the tractor, what is a quick fix." He said, "Quick with that old generator will be two weeks as I don't have the parts, quick with a new alternator will be 5 min. as I only need change one wire in a GM Delco alternator. What a lot of folks don't realize here is there are two issues 6 volt versus 12 volt and if each are wired properly, either will start anyone of these gas Farmalls perfectly. The 2nd issue is charging and on that the alternator is far superior to the generator as it puts out more amps, and doesn't matter whether it be 6 volt or 12 volt. Also replacing an alternator is about 50% of the cost of a generator.
