Medfarm, It appears that you may want make the decision as to fixing up the M or just getting a more modern tractor of the same era such as a 400 or a 450. I would stay away from the Super MTAs because they are overpriced due to collecter value. The gain for the additional money would be significant. By selling your M for $1500 and spending $1000 more you will gain increase horsepower, live 3 output hydraulics, live PTO, a torque amplifier and possibly power steering. Just think of all of the work you would save for possibly the same or less money in parts. I don't know how attached you are to your M but the 400s and 450s are a bargan because they are a modern tractor out of the same era. Remember in 1955-60 IHC was at its zeneth and the # 1 selling tractor until John Deere decided to do away with the put puts! John

Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
