Super A Steering Worm Gear Cap Removal Question

Started working on the steering gear. Does anyone have any experience with removing the outside cap to the worm gear? Mine appers to be stuck hard and I"ve tried some new 1-1/4 inch sockets but the keep slipping off the casting as it is not a precise as a regular bolt head. Or should I just load it up on the truck and go see my friend with a torch to apply some heat to it? Thanks in advance!
