Super A Starting Troubles...

I just got a new battery(6v) for my super a & the battery cabels were smoking... so i got the advice to clean the terminals off the new battery...WORKED fine...until i tried to start again then started smoking again....I tried cleaning the leads again but no luck....When i crank on it it barely turns over and the neg & pos cabels smoke..Yes it is hooked up correctly & polirized correctly...Yes it is fully charged..Whats up?????
