IH 404 PTO problem

Good Morning everyone,

The PTO is trying to disengage on my IH 404 and it make a good bit of chatter when the going gets tough. I've been able to hold the lever at a slightly different position and it will stay for a while but it's not consistent. I can also push the PTO output shaft in and out about a 1/2 inch.

Do you think it's a worn gear or just a bushing?

Do I need to completely remove the PTO drive assembly to do anything to it?

What's a good hydraulic fluid for this application?
