The throttle linkage does wear. With it turned off, and the throttle dash lever at full forward idle, find the governor control lever on the back of the gov. Remove the link from the control lever. Now move the dash lever to full throttle (last notch). Go to the governor again and see if the link is long enough to be pushing the governor control lever to full travel (align the link with the hole and see if it went as far as above. If it did not, adjust the length on the link (you may need to remove sheet metal to get at the assembly to adjust it) There are two springs and a metal bracket. Study it so that when adjusted it remains in the same tension, but moves the link as needed. If a spring is broken, replace it with a simslar hardware store spring. (they do not change the engine speed, that is inside the governor). There will be a dead zone (about 1/4-1/3 of travel at the Idle end. The above makes sure you are able to apply ful throttle. If the TA lever is pulled back and latched, and the tractor slows down about 30% but still pulls, the TA is probably OK. IF it stops with the TA pulled back, The TA is out. It should not free wheel in direct drive. If the lever does nothing, the linkage may be broken, or way out of adj. The tractor may not be going into direct at all. If it will go only about 12-13 MPH in fifth gear it is not in direct, and needs attention to the linkage at least. A manual is a must. JimN Keep us informed.

He had told my father
