It has been a while since I’ve had one off, but from memory I think you can. The issue then becomes the seals on the pump shaft and the fact that they are VERY, VERY vulnerable to damage when reinstalling the pump. I think the vet explained the "best" way to do it, not necessarily the fastest or easiest way. I’m in the vet’s corner here, get a manual. The price you pay now sill save you much trouble and frustration in the future. The folks on this board can talk you through just about anything on fixing a tractor, but can’t replace the info in a good shop manual.
