CHO (couldn't resist) there is a 2 inch round nut next to the steering post on the brake pedal side on the deck. Use a 3/4 inch extension and rachet to remove. Make sure that area is clean before removing it to keep crud out of the transmission. That area attracts dirt. There is a pin that holds the gear shift lever and then it can be removed. Someone else will have to give you directions on checking the shifting forks. I have not had that problem. Exactly where was the shift lever when you shut down. Were you in neutral with the clutch out before shutting down or what if you can remember?
