IH 424 -- throttle problem, need some help

I have a 1966 IH 424 utility -- it's been a good work tractor since I bought it three years ago. I was using it today with a post hole digger when it dropped from 3/4 throttle to idle. I thought something might be wrong with the linkage, but it was still attached. Moving the throttle lever only changes the rpms very slightly. When the problem first occured (it was sudden with no warning), moving the throttle lever to the idle position cause a rattling sort of sound. This sound stopped.

I noticed that the throttle linkage doesn't attach to the carb but, rather, heads toward the hydraulic pump (I think). I need some advice on what and where to look in order to get things operational again. It still runs fine (at idle speed) and everything else seems to work fine.
