I thank you for the reply. The field circuit seems OK as when I excite it the gen charges full scale backwards I was wondering if the 3rd brush somehow is now shorting out on the wrong side of the induced voltage, polarity wise, and this could be caused only by brush wear as nothing else has been changed. If the battery was reverse connected to be negative grd, then this generator would charge well but I cant figure out why if worked for so long and now wants to charge only in reverse. Do you think the brush wear could cause that? Thanks for you input Jim
