Model H- Locked rear axel

I'm restoring a '44 Model H that rolled into the barn but while sitting on blocks, the right rear axel locked up (only about 1/16" forward/back rotation). Other than putting it on blocks, draining the oil out of the trans and removing the pedals, I havn't done anything to it. I've moved the shifter rails with a screwdriver, but no help. I'd appreciate any ideas about what caused it to lock up and any suggestions on where to start to fix it.
