Rhino, I finally got out the Blue Ribbon Service Manual tonight. Simply put, #3 is connected to the side of the key switch that is only hot when the switch is "ON". #4 is connected to the "idiot light", which is then connected to the same place as #3. The resistor is connected BETWEEN #3 and #4.
