If the main metering tube is stuck you have a real problem. Most likely the well that it sits into is full of rust and crud. The idle jet probably will not come out in one piece, it will twist off and then you will be searching for the proper size drill bit so you can remove what is left of the jet, and then you will need the proper size of tap to clean up the threads so that you can install the new jet. If the well is full of crud, the idle jet has to be removed in order to clean out all the crud that is in there. It can be done. I just recently rebuilt one that was every bit as bad or worse. It now looks like a brand new carburetor.
