The best stuff I have come across is a product called Never Dull. It's wadded up high tensile cotton type material soaked in a solution. Comes in a blue can. When I was in the military, we used it to shine up brass, stainless steel, chrome etc. I've used it on motorcyle chrome and of course, Farmall emblems. You rub the stuff on and let it work in a bit (the grime and surface crud will lather up into a black film of sorts) then you wipe it off with a clean rag and it polishes right up. Makes those emblems sparkle.
