On a "cold" start, even in the summer, I have to choke my F-20, and our Super A and even our 656 gasser usually needs a little choke too. I think it's just the nature of the beast with an updraft carb- you need that choke shut to get the fuel flowing initially since there's no accelerator pump like on an automotove carb. Once the engine's warmed up and things have expanded and are better sealed up, usually the vacumn of the pistons going down can pull enough fuel to start the warm engine....at least that's my theory!
