We're talking about 30 and 40 year old tractors here.

999% of the time, the darned pumps are wobbled out anyway. Why not start with a pump and then if by chance it still doesn't work, at that point go thru the circle dance of trying to find an illusive problem?

Why not just gamble and play the odds? If it walks, talks and looks like a duck, it probably has pin feathers and is more than likely a darned duck. :>)
