Fasthitch won't hold position

The Fasthitch on the 340 utility I purchased last year won"t hold position. If I move the lever (quadrant?) to raise the hitch slightly and then don"t move the lever any further, the hitch will continue by itself to its top position. If I move the lever the opposite way just a little, the hitch will continue to drop to it"s lowest position. I can"t keep the hitch in any intermediate position.

It was suggested that the check valve spring might be broken, but I disassembled it today and found it is a one way check valve, and that the spring looked fine as well as the rest of the insides (valve, seat, ball, etc.). I plan to replace the Orings in it but don"t know if that alone could be the problem.

Has anyone encountered this problem, and what did you find the problem to be? Thanks alot.
