You've probably got a 3/8" set already, so get a 1/2" set. If you happen to have a 1/2" set already, get a 3/4" set. Heck, you'll probably want both.

If you are limited on funds, deep well 6-point is the most useful type of socket. 12-point... I don't know why they make 12-point, as I've never seen a 12-point bolt head, and all 12-point sockets do is round off the corners...

Harbor Freight impact sockets are the best deal around when you catch them on sale.

You can never have too many wrenches.
