One more for Bob M

Re 12 v conversion on 300u. I got your diagram, and tonight I traced all the wires with a ohm meter. Finally found them all, the last one took about an hour. It is the one from the alternator to the ignition switch, which was broken off and disconnected. Before it appeared to be charging a few amps, and discharging a few amps with the lights on. Put it back together and started it up, holy buckets the amps jumped to +45 then came down to about 35 when I stopped it.
But, stopping it wasn't quite right. Could not do it with the ignition switch. If I remember right, I need to install a diode in the wire from the alternator to the ignition switch, is that right?
The only difference I saw between the schematic you provided and my tractor is that my lights get power from the alternator post instead of the amp meter.
Please advise on the diode, and thank you for all the help!
