Row-crop tractors like you said were taller to get over the crops, but also had adjustable rear tread width(axles you can slide the hubs in and out on) to adjust for different row spacing of crops versus the utilities and Wheatlands, etc. which usually just had a fixed hub that the wheel bolted to with little or no adjustment. Like Cowman said, row-crops were available with wide fronts, as well as narrow. In general, the wide front row-crops had the axle forward, about directly under the grille, whereas on the utilities had their axles back further, about directly below the fan.
