Farmall M(NEW Amp Gauge)

I bought a new amp gauge from TSC. First when I put it in I hooked it up like it was on the old gauge. When I turned on the lights it was reading positve charge at 10 amps. Then I just said thats enough farm"in today. Now to day hooked the wires the opposite way and turn the lights on it was discharging at 10 amps. I thought that is right. So later when I was using it I had the lights on and tractor was running it said zero. Anyway is that right it seems weird to me.
