I'm still in progress on my IH 350 conversion to PS. The PS unit was quoted to me $475 complete with all necessary parts to do the changeover. I negotiated a lower price with exchange of my good used std unit, but in deference to the gentleman that sold it to me, I'll refrain from listing it here. The change over requires removal of the old column, casting, and rocker shaft assembly and installing the "new" one. The casting bolts directly to the transmission/clutch casting of the tractor with 6 bolts and is very easily exchanged after removal of hood and cowling tin, gas tank, and loosening (to move slightly for bolt access) the aircleaner and starter motor. The PS casting and column contains a valve built into the column and an actuating piston attached to the right half of the casting. Hydraulic return line is steel and runs from the valve in the column along the left side of the transmision to the reservoir under the seat. The pressure line follows the same path, but continues on around the back of the reservoir to the valve body on the right rear corner of the reservoir. The "gotcha" is that the 300-350 w/o ps does not the proper flow control regulator valve that acts to allow demand/priority hydraulic pressure to the PS unit. Your supplier will have to also provide this flow control valve. The good new (as I have been informed) is that flow control regulator is the same as on the 300-350 farmall tractors and should not be hard to find. The supplier that I am dealing with is true to his word and is providing that valve to me as promised. Also be aware that the hydraulic lines are NOT available from Case-IH, nor can they be acquired from their obsolete parts source, so make sure that you get the lines, too, or at least whats left of them so they can be remade by your local hydraulic shop. The labor part (so far) has been easy and uncomplicated, but then again I haven't pulled and replace the regulator valve yet. I believe your toughest job is going to be finding a salvage 300-350 Utility that has a power steering unit that can be bought. Les Repair indicated that he was aware of a case where someone had modified a late model fully hydrostatic steering mechanism to work on one of these tractors. I can see where that might be possible, but I'd bet it's an involved procedure requiring access to a machine shop. Of course, going that route destroys the originality of your tractor.
