Maybe a rubber mallot would help, but I'm claiming that my shaft will not slide out. Looking at the picture in my manual, it looks like the bevel gear on the shaft has to go through two bearings, one on each end of the shaft. But both bearings won't slide out, will they? It seems like the shaft would have to be split, but I guess that's not the case. Even if I started unbolting everything on the unit, I'm not confident this thing will come apart.
