I agree with what Allen says - have the phone co. check for noise, then reinstall the driver for the modem (no cost so far)....then I would put another new modem in it. Any spike from the line will take out the modem or cause problems. I have had quite a bit of experience and work with a 100 pc network and have seen most problems in one way or another. Allan is right those pc repair shops come and go and most of them (no, not all) have not a clue or any experience with electronics, and/or how a pc functions other than simply how to plug in a board. With that said I will never buy a pc from a local shop who builds their own piecemeal. Some may be fine, but most often they never really work right and often you end up paying for replacemnt parts within a year or two. I currently purchase pcs for work, and buy Dell equipment and rarely have a problem and if I do they replace the part (and labor) within one day at no cost and most Dell pcs come with a 3 year warranty. No, I do not work for Dell or get any compensation from them. I have started buying Dell refurb pcs and servers with good luck from them as well. My experience shows that you will end up spending more for the local "geek" who buids one than just buying a factory machine and it will run better/longer. Again, just my experience and your local guy may know what he is doing. Down my way it is usually some guy who found he could put one together and set up a shop.

It is also very apparent that these folks are getting a lot of very poor and often very dangerous advice fro
