Frank Does the tractor slow down when the pto shaft appears to slip? If it does, you have a tractor clutch problem (either adjustment or worn parts). The engagement mechanism for the pto is a solid locking device. We use a John Deere 4 row cotton shredder (model 1005 I believe) behind the "M". This chopper (we call them shredders or mowers in California) has a adjustable multi-disc torque limiting clutch in the drive train. If the shredder is overloaded, the blades will slow down but the pto shaft speed will remain linear with the engine speed. This piece of equipment also can
