H and M are different. As Rusty said, there were two rods. But, my parts book does not show a serial break. First one is 51822D, 46 5/8" long, the newer one is 357 420 R1, 45 27/32" (measured in 32nds for a choke rod?) long. I don't think the older one (D number) is the one Rusty mentioned so there may be a third, because that is the one size fits all number in the OEM Tractor Parts catalog. I guess, but am by no means sure, that the R1 number was for the very late M's shortly before the Super M came out, as some changes in the controls were made at that time, and that the D number fits most M's. I realize that none of this will solve your immediate problem. Someone else can throw in their $ worth.
