I understand that the A (and also B I assume) have no water pump but use what the owner's manual calls "thermal syphen" which means the water just circulates because of temperature difference through the engine and radiator to cool the engine. My problem is, I am not sure the water is circulating through the engine. The reason is that the lower hose where the water goes from the radiator to the engine is never very hot but only a little warm even after the engine has run for an hour or more. Meanwhile, the water at the top of the radiator is very hot (but not boiling). The engine runs well all during this time. (I know the radiator is clear because I flushed it a few times.) I'm not sure how to test whether or not the water is circulating through the engine without taking the radiator off. Two questions: First, does anyone with an A or B know if their lower radiator hose becomes hot after the engine is warmed up or does it just remain warm? (If everyone else's is just warm maybe the radiator really is cooling the water that much.) Second, is there any way to test the circulation without taking the radiator off? I thank you all for your help.
