Well, I had the front of the engine all tore apart when I freed mine up. But basically, I squirted it down with oil (ATF in a squirt can) and went at it with a hammer and bar stock. It's pretty tough so you'll have to work to damage it. I don't think heat will be necessary, but if you do heat be careful with the spring that pulls the mechanism away from the crank pulley.
