If the unit is jumping, I think it is due to a leak in either the control valve or the cylinder. I used to have a 424 and it did that for a while and then eventually would not lift at all. It was the seal on the piston in the lift cylinder. Had to have a new piston and O ring to fix it. The original seal was leather, so had to have new piston to accomodate the more modern O ring. There is a shut off valve on the 424 that shuts off the hydraulics to the 3 point lift so you can connect a remote to the system. Raise the lift up and close that valve and shut off the tractor. If the lift goes down, the piston seal is leaking.
