The long and short neck terms refer to pressure systems only. The distance from the top of the filler opening to the ledge that the sealing gasket pushes on were the differene between them. Historically there were two styles of cap. (now there are more) If your H has a waterpump, it needs a thermostat. Running cold will reduce economy, and fowl plugs. JimN
