By remote valve, I mean the actual control valve. The rectangular piece you describe is the check valve for the rear couplers. I didn't realize that your spool is broken. That will require replacement of the whole control valve, as they are machined to fit each other. No, they are not hard to remove. If you do decide to replace it, make sure to get an "open-sided" valve. Thats the type that is used for the inner valve on all 06-66 series IH's with two valves, and also the outer valve on 06's. When you've got an open-sided outer valve, you can bolt the power beyond plate to it. Otherwise, from the factory, it would have just had a cover. "Closed sided" valves came out with the 56 series, and they were used on all tractors with only one valve, and in the outer position on tractors with two valves. These do not have the oil passages cut all of the way through, and do not allow for you to bolt on a power beyond plate. Open sided valves were still used in the inner position on tractors with two factory valves to allow for the outer valve to bolt up. Sound confusing? It is. Just don't get the terms "open-sided valve" and "closed-sided valve" mixed up with "open-centered valve" and "closed-centered valve". That's a common mistake that will lead to more confusion (all older IH's use open-centered hydraulics).

With Ben, anyway, I can tell! He'll be busy working and I’m handing him tools and he says, "give me that..." and I’ve already got it in his hand or "hand me that....."and I’ve got the portable light right where he needed it placed to see. "Run in the house and get me a...."as I open th
