It's not too bad getting into the haying business as long as you can find some ground to get going on. We are running only about 12 acres...but with the deep soil up here, you can get three good cuts every year...and sometimes four. I do all of it with the Farmall H, a nice NH 467 haybine, and a JD 14T baler. All of them are quite reliable and simple to maintain. It almost pays more to sell the small squares. As more and more operations are going to the large squares and round bales, the horse farms have been left behind since they don't have the necessary equipment to handle these size bales. It's not unheard of to get $4 a bale delivered right before the snow flies. Between cutting, raking, and baling, a thousand bales...I've maybe got 9 hours in it with the above listed equipment. That's a $4000 paycheck for one day of hard work. That's not bad. I'll probably get you those pictures early next week! Billy
