I don't know the oil pressure the 7.3 powerstroke in my F250 - the gage calibrations are simply "L" and "H". However the needle never varies from about the center of the gage regardless of RPM or temperature. (It may actually work only as a "mechanical idiot light" for all I know...)

You are likely correct regarding lower oil pressures today on account of better quality oil. Also better bearing materials, closer manufacturing tolerances, improved oil filtration, etc contribute.

Incidentally lower oil pressure = slightly improved fuel economy (ie. less energy lost running the oil pump).
