Paul: The TA needs to be adjusted. Very likely the low side of TA is out, however unit adjustment must be maintained so TA clutch will release in unison with the main clutch. This problem can create both starter and shifting problems. Get a manual and adjust it to the letter, close doesn't count with these. As far as TA being out, it will run for years without it. I'd personally buy a rebuilt TA, and fix it, they are very useful. Depends on what your using tractor for.
