In my opinion, two options come to mind. (maybe both) Pull the lever and build up the tip so that it just fits in the slightly worn rail slots. Make it bigger than needed, then grind it down till it fits just without binding. The second is more radical, but there is no reason to heat the lever near the crooked part, evenly for about 4", to red heat, and bend it in a nice arc to give more clearance. It won"t take much.
