I don't think you will loose that much fluid...there is fluid in the bottom too...that is where mine was leaking.
I hav been able to get gaskets, bearings and the dowel pin that is always worn from CIH. I don't like that form a gasket stuff...never had much luck with it.
I know also it's a hassle getting that unit off. You have to remove the entire dash assembly, but it sure makes it easier working on the thing.
I have two of them to fix. One on a 350U and a 300U. I have just been putting it off.
Take your time...you will do fine.
